Tutorial Step 3: Create a Product Flow Diagram (PFD)

Note: This topic is part of the tutorial sequence to learn ChangeAide 3.3. The first step in the tutorial is Create a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS). to Create a Product Flow Diagram (PFD)

This step in the tutorial creates a Product Flow Diagram for the Moved Shed example found in the example PBP file:  ShedExampleACT00.PBP.

  The following steps take you through the creation of the Product Flow Diagram (PFD)
View the PFD

Select the PFD tab. You will see your products shown as yellow rectangles.

The products can be moved to the right side of the PFD by pushing the down arrow to the right of Layout on the menu bar and selecting 'Move Unused' from the drop-down menu.

Note: Sometimes products in the PFD are stacked on top of each other. Use 'Move Unused' to show all of the products.

If you can't see the product you are looking for, select the product in the Product Checklist, this will select the product rectangle in the PFD and make it easier to see.

Rearrange the top and bottom products
  1. Select the Old Shed product in the Product Checklist. The Old Shed rectangle in the PFD is selected.
  2. Click and drag the Old Shed rectangle to the top of the PFD.
  3. Select the Moved Shed product in the Product Checklist. The Moved Shed rectangle in the PFD is selected.
  4. Click and drag the Moved Shed rectangle to the bottom of the PFD.
Locate and move the Rotten Pieces product Select and move the Rotten Pieces product to match the PFD for the Moved Shed example in the example file:  ShedExampleACT00.PBP
Create a link from the Old Shed product to the Rotten Pieces product
  • Select the Old Shed product in the PFD.
  • Move the mouse to the centre handle of the product. The cursor changes to an up arrow.
  • Hold down the left mouse button and drag a link to the centre of the Rotten Pieces product.
  • Release the mouse button. A green arrow should now link the two products together.

Note: The arrow is green to indicate that the link is selected and may be deleted. When you select another link the arrow will become black.

Add the links for all other products Continue to link all of the other products together to match the Moved Shed example.  To match the example you may also need to use the drop down menu in the Product Checklist to change the product type to External.
Save your project
  1. From the File menu, choose Save As.
  2. Save your project in the examples folder: My Documents\My ProductBasedPlans\Examples.
  3. Save your project as PFDTutorial.
Open the example project
  1. From the File menu, choose Open.
  2. Browse to the examples folder.
  3. Open ShedExampleACT00.PBP. This shows the finished version of thisPFD.
